½ cup powdered Quaker Oats*
½ cup whole wheat flour
½ cup chopped spinach
¼ tsp nigella (kalonji)
1 pinch asafoetida
salt to taste
For Filling
½ cup split bengal gram (chana dal)
2-3 flakes garlic
1 inch piece ginger
1 pinch turmeric
salt & green chili to taste
Grind soaked and drained chana dal coarsely with filling ingredients.
Grind spinach to a smooth paste and add Quaker Oats, whole wheat flour & spices.
Knead to firm dough and keep aside for 10 mins.
Divide into small balls and roll into thick chapattis.
Place chana dal filling in the middle and roll tightly. Seal ends and edges with water.
Gently drop the rolls into boiling water and boil for 15 mins till it floats.
Strain, cool, slice and serve.
(rolls can also be steamed instead of boiling)
*For powdered Quaker Oats, roast Quaker Oats for 2-3 mins.
Cool and grind in a mixer.
